When to use Unlock PDF
An accountant downloads quarterly reports from a client portal, and every file is password-protected with the same known password — opening each one to copy a number is tedious. Or an HR manager has a password-protected offer letter they need to annotate, but the restriction blocks copy and edit actions. Enter the password here, and pdf-lib decrypts the file on your own machine, producing an unlocked copy that opens without a prompt and allows all operations. Your password is never sent to any server — it stays in this browser tab for the duration of the operation and is discarded. This works only when you already know the correct password; the tool has no ability to guess or brute-force an unknown one.
- Remove the password from portal-downloaded reports you reference daily
- Unlock a password-protected offer letter before adding annotations
- Strip restrictions from an old archived PDF you own but keep re-entering
