When to use Split PDF

A client sends a 60-page contract and you need to share only the two-page scope-of-work section with a subcontractor. Upload the full document here, click the page thumbnails for the pages you want, and pdf-lib writes a new PDF containing only that selection on your own computer. The original file on your hard drive is never touched — you are creating a separate extracted copy. This is also the move when an upload portal enforces a 5 MB file limit and your full report is 22 MB: trim it to the relevant chapter and it fits. You can split out a single page or a range, download multiple separate files in one session.

  • Share just the scope-of-work pages from a 60-page contract
  • Extract one chapter from a textbook PDF for annotation
  • Trim a report to fit a portal's 5 MB file-size limit

About this tool

Pull exactly the pages you need out of a larger PDF — without touching the original. Upload a report, a scanned book chapter, or a batch of invoices, click the page thumbnails you want to keep, and download a new PDF with just those pages. Useful when a collaborator only needs section three of a 60-page spec, when you're extracting one chapter from a book for annotation, or when an online form has a hard file-size limit you can solve by trimming pages. Nothing is uploaded — splitting runs in this browser tab with no server involved.

Frequently asked

Is this private? Do you upload my PDF?
No. pdf-lib extracts the selected pages on your own machine — the document is never transmitted to any server.
How do I split a PDF?
Drop in your PDF, click the page thumbnails you want to extract, then click Split. A new PDF containing only those pages downloads immediately.
Can I extract specific pages?
Yes — click on individual pages to select them, or use the range selector for larger documents.
Is splitting PDFs reversible?
The original file on your device is untouched. A new PDF is written with only the pages you selected, so you can go back to the source at any time.
