When to use Image Blur / Pixelate

You're about to share a bug report screenshot with the vendor's support team, but the screenshot includes a customer's name and email address in the corner. Upload it, choose pixelation, dial the block size until the text is unreadable, and download the redacted version. Gaussian blur gives a smooth, photographic softening — good for background defocus effects — while the pixelation mode creates a mosaic of square blocks, which many privacy guidelines treat as stronger redaction. Both effects are applied directly in the browser using a canvas filter; your image never leaves this tab. The preview updates in real time as you drag the intensity slider, so you can find the right level before you download.

  • Pixelate a customer's email address before sharing a screenshot in Jira
  • Blur a license plate in a property photo before listing it on Zillow
  • Soften a background in a product photo to draw focus to the subject

About this tool

Need to obscure a face, a license plate, or a piece of sensitive information in a screenshot before you share it? Upload the image, choose between a smooth Gaussian blur or a block pixelation effect, dial in the intensity, and download. Blur runs locally in your browser — no upload required — which matters when the photo contains personal data or confidential information. The effect applies to the entire image; for selective area blurring, a dedicated editor is a better fit. Preview updates in real time as you adjust the slider.

Frequently asked

Is this image blur tool private? Do you upload my photos?
No uploads. A canvas filter applies the effect in memory on your machine — the photo never moves outside this browser tab, which matters when blurring faces or sensitive info.
What is the difference between blur and pixelate?
Blur applies a smooth Gaussian filter that softens the image. Pixelate groups pixels into larger blocks, creating a mosaic effect.
Can I blur only part of the image?
This tool applies the effect to the entire image. For selective blur, consider using a dedicated photo editor.
Does the effect reduce file size?
Blurred and pixelated images often compress better because they contain less detail, but the primary purpose is the visual effect, not compression.
